Tradition 30 and Classic 58 Post Mounted Installation Guide
Tradition 30 & Classic 58 Post-Mounted Notice Boards
Installation Instructions
These instructions apply to Tradition 30 and Classic 58 post-mounted notice boards. Please read the instructions fully before beginning installation.
The notice board is supplied with 2600mm long posts, measuring 40mm × 60mm, together with fixing brackets and the appropriate fixings for attaching the notice board to the posts.
We recommend installation is carried out by two people.
1. Check the Board Orientation
Before installation, check that the notice board is the correct way up.
Tradition 30 single-door boards are designed to be hinged on the left and open from the right. Small condensation/drainage holes are located underneath the bottom profile of the board. These holes must face downwards when the board is installed.
Installing the board upside down may affect the operation and alignment of the door and prevent the drainage holes from functioning correctly.
The Classic 58 is installed in the same general way. However, the two largest Classic 58 sizes, holding 16 × A4 and 21 × A4, are top-hinged and fitted with gas struts rather than being side hinged.
2. Decide on the Post Position
The posts are positioned vertically on either side of the notice board.
There are two options for the finished post height:
- The posts can finish level with the top of the notice board, leaving the header above the posts.
- Alternatively, the posts can extend upwards and finish level with the top of the header.
Both arrangements are suitable. Decide which appearance you prefer before fixing the board and setting the posts into the ground.
3. Attach the Fixing Brackets
The notice board and fixing brackets are pre-drilled.
Attach the supplied brackets to the pre-drilled fixing points on the notice board using the fixings provided.
The brackets are designed to wrap around the posts and provide a secure connection between the board and each post.
The posts themselves are not pre-drilled. The installer will need to drill the appropriate fixing holes into the posts during installation.
4. Position the Board Between the Posts
Lay out the two posts and position the notice board between them.
Make sure:
- the board is the correct way up;
- the posts are parallel;
- the board is centred between the posts;
- the required height above ground has been established; and
- the tops of the posts are positioned at your chosen height – either level with the board or level with the top of the header.
Use the pre-drilled brackets as a guide to mark the drilling positions on each post.
5. Drill and Fix to the Posts
Drill the required fixing holes into the posts at the marked positions.
Secure the brackets to the posts using the supplied fixings. Do not fully tighten all fixings until you have checked that the notice board is square and level.
Once correctly aligned, tighten the fixings securely.
6. Prepare the Ground
Mark the position of both posts on the ground.
Before digging, check the installation area for underground cables, pipes, drains or other services.
Each post should be embedded approximately 500–600mm into the ground.
Dig suitable holes approximately 300mm wide and 500–600mm deep, or as appropriate for the ground conditions.
7. Install the Posts
Position the assembled board and posts into the prepared holes.
Using a spirit level, check that:
- both posts are vertical;
- the board is horizontal and level;
- the board is centred between the posts; and
- the installation is square and correctly aligned.
Once you are satisfied with the position, fill around the posts with a suitable Postcrete or concrete mix, following the manufacturer's instructions.
Continue checking the posts and board with a spirit level while the concrete sets.
8. Final Checks
Once the concrete has fully set, check all fixings and make sure the board is firmly secured with no movement in the posts or frame.
Open and close the notice board door to make sure it operates freely and locks correctly.
For Tradition 30 single-door boards, check again that the door is hinged on the left and opens from the right, with the drainage/condensation holes underneath the bottom profile.
For the 16 × A4 and 21 × A4 Classic 58 boards, carefully open the top-hinged door and check that the gas struts operate correctly and support the door as intended.
Important Installation Information
The posts must be firmly secured and completely stable. Movement in the posts can allow the notice board frame to flex, particularly during windy conditions. This can affect the alignment of the door and locking mechanism.
The installer is responsible for checking for underground services and ensuring that the ground conditions and foundations are suitable for the size and location of the notice board.
Do not use the notice board until the Postcrete or concrete has fully set and the installation is secure.
